Garlic, Leeks, Onions --
Allium sativum, A. porrum, and A. cepa

Garlic, leeks, and onions have been cultivated in central Asia from the beginning of written human history. No one really knows where these herbs originated. Numbers 11:5 says the Israelites ate these plants during their stay in Egypt.. Various historical documents recorded the quantity of onions, garlic, and radishes consumed daily by the people building the pyramids.

Please refer to any book about food gardening for helpful hints on growing these plants successfully. each species requires a different soil type and cultivation methods.
