![]() Rue -- Ruta graveolens or R. chalepnsis
Cultivation This plant is very winter hardy to -40°F. In its native habitat, it grows on warm, dry slopes, in screes (chipped rocks and other debris that collects at the base of mountains), or on rock-covered plains. Many people are sensitive to the sap of this plant. Wear gloves when pruning it. This plant is poisonous although it was used in herbal medicine in the past. Bible References Luke 11:42: But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
