![]() Plants of Coastal British ColumbiaJim Pojar and Andy MacKinnon. Revised Plants of Coastal British Columbia. Lone Pine. 2004. The Revised Plants of Coastal British Columbia is another one of Lone Pine's outstanding field guides. The authors are members of the British Columbia Forest Service (Research Program) that automatically gives me a favorable impression of the book. Since the authors are in research, I trust that their plant identifications are correct. As I've grown to expect with any Lone Pine field guide, the book is fully illustrated with colorful photographs and maps to supplement the text information on any specific plant. This book covers everything from trees and shrubs to the smallest moss. The plants are grouped by group (tree, shrub, herbaceous, etc.). The authors even include an excellent section of the common aquatic plants of British Columbia. This is followed by a section called "Odd balls" which frankly made be laugh. Some of those parasitic plants look very "other-worldly". No one living in Coastal British Columbia should be without this book if they take time to explore their unique geographical region. It fits easily in your backpack and is so comprehensive that you may not even need another field guide. |
