![]() Wildflowers of Mount RainierLaird R. Blackwell. Wildflowers of Mount Rainier. Lone Pine Publishing. 2000. This guide groups plants by several methods. First, it groups them by plant zone (forest, subalpine, and alpine zones). Then it breaks them down by habitat within the zone. Finally, it uses color and number of petals. I find this method of grouping plants in a field guide extremely helpful. It is a method that should be adopted by all field guides because it makes it so simple for even amateurs to come up with at least a quality tentative identification of a plant. Each description includes the common name, scientific name, detailed description, growing habitats, distribution, and a summary of general plant color, number of petals, and flowering time period. |
